Adventroas im Salzburger Freilichtmuseum

Advent for the whole family, filled with crafts, stories and time-honoured traditions

On the first two weekends of Advent (28–29 November & 5–6 December), the Salzburg Open-Air Museum offers a special festive experience with plenty of space to explore, marvel and join in.

Rather than rows of tightly packed market stalls, the historic houses open their doors, inviting visitors to experience Christmas traditions surrounded by nature and together with their loved ones. Make your own straw stars, Christmas tree decorations and festive arrangements, create unique candles by hand-dipping them, and post letters to the Christkind at the “Little Angels’ Post Office”.

Children can explore a Christmas maze, while fairy-tale and story tellers transport listeners of all ages to other worlds. An atmospheric ride on the museum railway is part of the Adventroas experience, alongside a nativity scene exhibition and brass musicians playing traditional melodies at various locations throughout the museum.

There are plenty of seasonal treats to enjoy, too. At the blacksmith’s, try traditional Stachelbier—beer warmed with a hot iron—or sample bacon, biscuits, roasted chestnuts, Sporer punch and other delicious specialities.

Tickets are limited and available online only. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the ticket office on the day, subject to availability. → Buy tickets

For members of the Friends of the Salzburg Open-Air Museum: Special arrangements apply to the Adventroas. You will receive details directly from the association’s office at the end of October.
