LATEST UPDATE ON THE PLAINBURG IN GROSSGMAIN – NOT YET REOPENED

The Plainburg, a popular excursion destination in Großgmain and a historic landmark overlooking the Marienheilgarten, unfortunately remains closed for the time being this season. The reason is a safety-related structural issue at the inner castle gate.

In this section of the historic castle wall, a large stone has come loose, leaving a hole that must be professionally repaired before the site can reopen. Preparations for the necessary restoration are currently underway in close coordination with experts. After the completion of the repair work, an official inspection by the Federal Monuments Authority is also required to ensure the safety of all visitors.

There is still reason to look forward: Once the restoration is complete, the newly built viewing platform will also be opened to the public – offering even more breathtaking views over the Bad Reichenhall basin. According to the responsible authorities in the municipality, the Plainburg is expected to reopen no later than mid-June.

We kindly ask all hiking and culture enthusiasts for their patience and understanding – protecting this valuable cultural heritage is our highest priority. As soon as a reopening date is confirmed, we will share the news immediately.
