Großgmain Christmas Marksmen
A Living Tradition Throughout the Festive Season
The Christmas shooting tradition has a long and deeply rooted history in Großgmain. Every year, the Christmas Marksmen of Großgmain uphold this cherished custom, firing their ceremonial shots around Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Epiphany. Visitors are warmly invited to experience this cultural heritage firsthand and enjoy the unique, festive atmosphere at the various shooting locations.
A particular highlight is the Christmas Eve shooting at Plainburg. The historic setting, the impressive panoramic views and the special atmosphere of Christmas Eve make this event a popular gathering place for families and locals alike. For many children, the shooting helps shorten the wait for the Christkind, while adults appreciate a moment of calm before the evening celebrations begin.
