ALL ABOUT LIME – A UNIVERSAL BUILDING MATERIAL PROVEN FOR MILLENNIA

Charging the Lime Kiln
June 23–25

During the historical lime-burning process, the kiln is carefully layered with limestone and fuel.
This process requires extensive experience to ensure good ventilation and an even distribution of heat during firing — both essential for achieving high-quality burnt lime.

Lime Burning
June 26–29

Once filled, the lime kiln is fired continuously for several days.
The heat drives out the carbon dioxide from the limestone, leaving behind burnt lime.
Maintaining a consistent temperature is critical to ensure a high-quality result.

Slaking the Lime
July 2–3

During the slaking process, burnt lime is mixed with water.
This creates slaked lime and releases intense heat.
The demonstration impressively showcases the chemical reaction and explains the importance of slaking for the further use of lime as a building material.

Daily at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM – Duration approx. 60 minutes
