Salzburger Rupertikirtag

Tradition, Local Customs and Festival Spirit Around Salzburg Cathedral

The Rupertikirtag is one of Salzburg’s most popular and traditional festivals.

To celebrate the feast day of Saint Rupert, the patron saint of Salzburg, the squares of Salzburg’s historic Old Town are transformed into a lively festival area from 23 to 27 September 2026.

Traditional fairground rides, market stalls, regional specialities and live music create an authentic Salzburg folk-festival atmosphere.

There is plenty for visitors of all ages to discover between Domplatz, Residenzplatz, Mozartplatz, Kapitelplatz and Alter Markt.

The colourful combination of living traditions, traditional costumes, music and social gatherings against the historic backdrop of Salzburg’s Old Town makes this festival a truly special experience.

The Rupertikirtag is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike and offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Salzburg’s traditions first-hand.
